All of the aforementioned and many more examples show the complete disregard of the term severe drought.Barbados - Worst drought in 100 years and UWI Cave HillWhile attending the University of the West Indies many students have reported their abso... Many of us are quite unaware as to the true reason that Haiti is as poor as it is. And it certainly has nothing to do with simply bad management of government or the natural disaster that frequent the country all too often. Some 200 years ago Haiti was forced to pay France to be able to claim its sovereignty and peace from France. Haiti paid 90 million Francs (21 billion now) to their colonial powers to secure their Freedom. Many of us only know half of that story that is that the Haitian peop... Continue reading...

Fantasia woes fans Two days before the release of fantasia show on BET the star treated Barbadians to an hour long performance that rocked the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymansium. Fantasia got into a rhythm and worked the crowds as she showed she was still that down to earth girl by getting up close and personal with her fans as she sang favourites such as ‘When I See You”. Apologies for not wishing you a happy new year sooner. I (and all our other contributors) have been very bit busy entertaining guests and probably consuming too much food and drink, so we haven’t been able to post as much as we should. For all I know an asteroid the size of Texas could have slammed itself into the other side of the earth today and I wouldn’t know or be able to post about it. So let me take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year to all Kiss Barbados visitors. May t... Continue reading...

The facts that would enflame China:China has a GDP of $ 5.5 billion (US figures) yet is treated much like a small child in the international arena with up to now very little say in global policies. If you ignore a country for so long then when they get some political clout they will flex it against you. I am actually surprised that so many people thought Copenhagen would have gone so well. The article circulating twitter right now (by Mark Lynas) shows our lack of understanding on China’s ... Continue reading...

Copenhagen DebacleThe last couple of months marked a notable shift in the climate change debate from “is it real” (mostly an American debate) to what can we do about it. Excluding the minor blimp of a few hacked emails there was a consensus – global warming is real. In that respect many saw Copenhagen as the turning leaf in moving from the debate on climate change to the action on climate change. Emission TargetsEven the emission targets expected (brought forward from the Kyoto Agreement... Continue reading...
